Bangladesh recorded 1,710 new coronavirus infections till 8am Monday exceeding the 800,000 mark. The total number of people infected has reached at 800,540 with the new cases.
The country registered 36 more deaths from Covid-19 in the meantime, taking the death toll to 12,619.
The death rate now stands at 1.58 percent in the country, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday.
The current positivity rate stands at 9.41 percent while the total positivity rate is 13.46 percent, the release added.
The number of infected people has increased significantly compared to a day earlier. The country recorded 1,444 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday.
This is the highest number of infections recorded in the span of a single day since May 6, when 1,822 people were infected.
Among the 36 deceased, 25 were men, and 11 were women. Of the victims, 34 died in different hospitals across the country while two died at home.
Twelve of the deceased were from the Chattogram division, nine from Dhaka, eight from Rajshahi, six from Khulna and one from Sylhet division.
A total of 18,178 samples were tested across the country till 8am Monday.
At least 1,567 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period. The total number of recoveries now stands at 740,372 and the recovery rate is 92.48 percent.
As of Monday, 3,557,478 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 171,060,457 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
