In a worrying turn of events, our country is witnessing a surge in the Covid-19 cases for the past few weeks. There has also been a rise in the number of deaths per day due to covid.

Now the experts opine that the recent spike is due to new virus variants that are either being imported or have mutated locally. After the detection of the UK variant, the South African variant of coronavirus has also been detected in Bangladesh, according to global genome-sequencing database GISAID.

In the current scenario we have some responsibilities along with the government to stop the covid surge. The new variants are not the only reason for this surge.

No matter what variant is out there, it is still

crucial to maintain social distancing and wear

masks till we don’t get rid of the virus once and for all

People have again become careless about covid and are not maintaining health guidelines. It is noticeable that the number of people wearing masks is decreasing. No matter what variant is out there, it is still crucial to maintain social distancing and wear masks till we don’t get rid of the virus once and for all.

Private and public organisations also have a responsibility to ensure that their stakeholders (employees, students, etc.) are following these health guidelines thoroughly.

Now that we are all aware of the new variants’ spread, the government should impose strict quarantine protocols for the travellers coming from the UK and South Africa. Covid vaccination programmes are extensively going on across the country.

We believe that the government should do more to promote the Covid-19 vaccines. In rural areas, there should be more extensive promotion and implementation of other precautionary actions more strictly.

However, it is also the responsibility of all organisations and individuals to exercise these precautions on their own and raise awareness about them wherever possible. Only then we can control the alarming rise of new cases.
