Covid cases continue to spike

12 die, 9,500 infected in 24 hrs

Bangladesh registered 12 more deaths in 24 hours from Covid-19 till 8am Wednesday. The total number of deaths has reached to 28,176 with the latest figure.

The country recorded 9,500 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 1,642,294, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday.

The current positivity rate stands 25.11 percent and the overall positivity rate stands at 13.72 percent.

In addition, the death rate now stands at 1.72 percent in the country, added the release.

Among the 12 deceased, 10 were males and two were females. Of them, eight were from Dhaka, two from Chattogram and one each from Tajshahi and Sylhet division. 

A total of 37,380 samples were tested across the country till 8am Wednesday. 

Some 473 Covid-19 patients have recovered during this period. A total of 1,554,268 people have recovered from the virus so far and the recovery rate stands at 94.64 percent.

As of Wednesday, 5,575,574 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 335,706,295 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
