Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad said it might be possible to start Covid-19 testing through RT-PCR lab at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport from today.

He made the statement while speaking to reporters at the airport on Friday after inspecting work of setting up RT-PCR labs to test Covid-19 for outbound passengers.

He said, “The trial will be run on Friday night. The whole operation may start from Saturday (today) and flights will also start on the same day.”

Earlier on Thursday, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque inspected the work of setting up RT-PCR lab at the airport to test corona for outbound passengers.

He told reporters at the time that outbound passengers would be able to go abroad by testing corona from the PCR lab at the airport by Saturday.

In response to a question from reporters, Imran Ahmed said, “I hope there will be no negligence. However, it is the responsibility of the Ministry of Health to monitor it. Besides, a team has been formed, they will look into the matter.”

At the time, the minister said, a letter has been sent to the Ministry of Health regarding booster doses for passengers of Saudi Arabia who had been vaccinated with Sinopharm. They will be able to say when the booster dose will be given, he added.
