Covid-19 recovery rate crosses 97pc in Rangpur division

The recovery rate of Covid-19 patients has crossed 97 percent in Rangpur division where the daily positivity rate marked a little rising trend after almost four months. Health officials said 22 more Covid-19 patients recovered during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am on Friday raising the total number of healed patients to 54,130 in the division.

"The average recovery rate of Covid-19 patients currently stands at 97.02 percent in the division," Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said.

The 54,130 recovered patients include 12,140 of Rangpur, 3,722 Panchagarh, 4,370 of Nilphamari, 2,625 of Lalmonirhat, 4,527 of Kurigram, 7,417 of Thakurgaon, 14,526 of Dinajpur and 4,803 of Gaibandha districts in the division. Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 55,793 as 10 fresh cases were diagnosed after testing 190 new samples at the positivity rate of 5.26 percent on Thursday in the division.

Among the 10 new cases diagnosed on Thursday, six were reported positive after testing 51 samples of Rangpur district at 11.8 percent positivity rate and two more positive after tasting 14 samples of Nilphamari district at 14.3 percent positivity rate. The district-wise break up of total 55,793 patients include 12,577 of Rangpur, 3,835 Panchagarh, 4,467 of Nilphamari, 2,764 of Lalmonirhat, 4,650 of Kurigram, 7,707 of Thakurgaon, 14,913 of Dinajpur and 4,890 of Gaibandha in the division.

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, a total of 3,08,319 collected samples were tested till Thursday, and of them, 55,793 were found positive with an average positivity rate of 18.10 percent in the division. On the other hand, the total number of casualties remained steady at 1,252 in the division as no new death was reported during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am on Friday.

The district-wise break up of the 1,252 fatalities stands at 293 in Rangpur, 81 in Panchagarh, 89 in Nilphamari, 69 each in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram, 256 in Thakurgaon, 332 in Dinajpur and 63 in Gaibandha districts of the division. The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.24 percent in the division.  Among total 55,793 Covid-19 patients, 15 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including four patients at ICU and one at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 54,130 patients and 1,252 deaths while 396 are remaining in home isolation.

"Meanwhile, number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 82,99,039, and among them, 56,83,461 got the second dose while 35,188 were inoculated with the booster dose of the jabs till Thursday in the division," Dr Islam added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr Md Mahfuzer Rahman urged all to abide by the health directives to prevent probable spread of the new Omicron variant of the deadly virus.
