Covid-19 infection rate drops

Bangladesh registered 56 more deaths from Covid-19 till 8am Sunday taking the death toll to 11,934.

The death rate now stands at 1.54 percent in the country, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday.

The country recorded 1,386 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 773,513, said the release. The current infection rate stands at 8.19 percent which is the lowest in 52 days as it was recorded at 7.68 percent earlier on March 18. 

The total positivity rate stands at 13.74 percent.

Among the 56 deceased, 38 were men, and 18 were women. Of them, 51 died in different hospitals across the country while five at home. 

22 of the deceased hailed from the Dhaka Division, 21 from Chattogram, four from Khulna, three from Rajshahi, two each from Barishal and Ranpur, and one each from Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions.

A total of 16,915 samples were tested across the country till 8am Sunday. 

At least 3,329 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period. The total number of recoveries now stands at 710,162 and the recovery rate at 91.81 percent.

As of Sunday, 3,298,084 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 158,364,642 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
