Covid-19 deaths surge again

Bangladesh registered 43 more deaths from Covid-19 till 8am Saturday taking the death toll to 12,801. This is the highest number of deaths since May 9. A total of 56 people died on that day. 

The country recorded 1,447 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 8,09,314 according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday. 

The death rate now stands at 1.58 percent in the country, added the release.

The number of fatalities has increased while the number of newly infected has declined compared to a day earlier. The country recorded 34 deaths and 1,887 infections on Friday. 

The current positivity rate stands at 11.30 percent. The total positivity rate stands at 13.41 percent.

Among the 43 deceased, 30 were men, and 13 were women. Of the victims, 42 died in different hospitals across the country while one died at home. 

12 each of the deceased were from the Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions, eight from Chattogram, five from Khulna, three from Ranpur, two from Mymensingh and one from Sylhet division.

A total of 13,115 samples were tested across the country till 8am Saturday. 

At least 1,667 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period. The total number of recoveries now stands at 7,49,425 and the recovery rate at 92.60 percent.  

As of Saturday, 3,728,668 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 173,357,945 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
