Covid-19 deaths cross 4500-mark in Bangladesh

The Covid-19 death toll crossed the 4,500-mark in Bangladesh on Monday with 37 new deaths registered in the 24 hours till 8am.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in the daily update said 2,202 new cases were detected during the period.

With that, the total number of cases rose to 327,359 and deaths 4,516.

Some 15,412 samples were tested in 93 labs across the country in the last 24 hours.

A total of 3,298 patients were declared free of the coronavirus during the period, taking the total number of recoveries 224,573.

The recovery rate is 68.60 percent so far while the death rate is 1.38 percent.

 Of the latest dead patients, 30 were men and seven were women.

 Thirteen of them hailed from Dhaka, six from Chattogram , three from Khulna, one each from Mymensingh  and Barishal,  seven from Rangpur, four from Sylhet and two from Rajshahi.

 Thirty-one died in different hospitals while six at home, according to DGHS.

 Currently, 51,561 people are quarantined across the country – including 1,436 newly-quarantined individuals.

 The authorities placed 424 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation.

 Some 19,171 people are staying in the isolation units of different hospitals across the country while 55,599 left.

 Bangladesh confirmed the disease first on March 8 and the first death on March 18.

 So far 16,44,724 samples have been tested in Bangladesh since January after the emergence of the virus in China in December.
