Covid-19 cases reach 97,630 with fresh 35 in Rajshahi

Thirty five more people were diagnosed with Covid-19 in five districts of Rajshahi division on Friday, taking the caseload to 97,630 since the pandemic began in March last year. The new daily infection figure is the ever-lowest in the division since the second wave of the pandemic hit the country around six months back.

The previous day's infection figure was 76, Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health, said.

Meanwhile, the recovery count rose to 93,244 in the division after another 37 patients were discharged from the hospitals on the same day. The death toll reached 1,650, including 680 in Bogura, 310 in Rajshahi with 186 in its city, and 171 in Natore, as two fresh cases of fatality were reported during the period, Dr Talukder added.

Besides, all the positive cases for Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 22,430 were kept in isolation units of different dedicated hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 18,788 have been released. Meanwhile, 10 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 19 others were released from isolation during the same time. Of the 35 new cases, 10 each were detected in Rajshahi, including eight in its city, and Bogura, followed by eight in Chapainawabganj, six in Sirajganj and one in Pabna districts.

With the newly detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the total cases now stands at 27,673 in Rajshahi, including 22,291 in city, 5,591 in Chapainawabganj, 6,352 in Naogaon, 8,287 in Natore, 4,571 in Joypurhat, 21,365 in Bogura, 11,222 in Sirajganj and 12,569 in Pabna.

A total of 1,11,894 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent the community transmission of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 1,08,686 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their 14-day quarantine.
