Court scraps bail plea of Abed Ali, 3 others

A Dhaka court on Thursday rejected the bail petitions of four accused including Syed Abed Ali, former driver of the Public Service Commission (PSC) in a case lodged over leaking of question paper of different PSC exams.

The other three accused, whose bail pleas were rejected, are Khalilur Rahman, Abu Solaiman Md Sohel and Liton Sarkar.

The Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Tofazzal Hossain passed the order as the accused filed the bail pleas to the court.

Police arrested a total of 17 accused in the case on July 9. Of the 17, six including Syed Abed Ali later gave confessional statements in the case.

CID Sub-Inspector Nippan Chandra Das on July 8 filed the case against 31 and 50/60 unnamed accused with the capital’s Paltan Police Station.

CID Seeks 10-day Remand for 6 accused.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has sought a 10-day remand for interrogation to six detained accused, including five officials of the Public Service Commission (PSC), in connection with the government job exam question leak case.

The accused include PSC Deputy Directors Jahangir Alam (Sylhet) and Abu Zafar, Assistant Director SM Alamgir Kabir, Auditor Prionath Roy, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital Technician Zahidul Islam, and former army official Noman Siddique.

Jewel Chakma, Additional Special Police Super of Cyber Investigation and Operations at CID and the case's investigation officer, submitted the remand petition, stating that all six were directly involved in the exam question leaks. Jewel Chakma emphasized the need for their remand to find out the involvement of other individuals in the offense.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury has scheduled a hearing for the remand petition on July 16.

Previously, on July 9, CID presented all 17 accused in the case before the court. Six of them confessed to their involvement in the leak before different magistrates. The remaining 11 were denied bail and sent to jail.

Earlier on July 9, the police produced 17 accused arrested in the court.

At that time, six persons including PSC driver Abed Ali agreed to give a statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. 

Following an application from the investigation officer of the case, the Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka recorded their statement.

On July 8, Sub-Inspector of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Nippon Chandra Das filed a case with Paltan Police Station in the capital.

Name of 31 people was mentioned in the case. Besides, there are 50 to 60 unidentified accused.

According to the case, the accused, as a syndicate, leaked the question papers of various grades of BCS and PSC in exchange of money in the past years.

The accused have acquired illegal wealth beyond their known income sources by selling questions to some government job aspirants.
