A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of income tax records of former Cultural Minister and actor Asaduzzaman Noor following corruption allegations.

The order was issued on Wednesday (April 8) by Judge Md. Sabbir Foyez of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court after hearing a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Bench Assistant Md. Riaz Hossain confirmed the matter. On behalf of the ACC, Assistant Director and Investigation Officer Md. Ferdous Rahman submitted the application seeking seizure of Noor’s income tax documents.

According to the petition, allegations have been brought against Asaduzzaman Noor for allegedly abusing power with dishonest intention and accumulating assets worth Tk 53.7 million inconsistent with his known sources of income.

Investigators also found suspicious transactions totaling Tk 158,78,47,898  across accounts maintained in 19 banks and financial institutions in his name. The ACC has filed a case against him under the Money Laundering Prevention Act over allegations of illegally earning and transferring funds.

An investigation officer has already been appointed to probe the case. The application states that, for the sake of a fair and proper investigation, it is necessary to seize and examine all income tax records of the accused, including permanent and miscellaneous files along with related documents.
