A Dhaka court has cancelled the bail of four accused, including the two sons of Chattogram-6 (Rauzan) Member of Parliament Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury, and issued arrest warrants against them over allegations of assault, vandalism, looting and attempted illegal occupation of an industrialist’s apartment in Gulshan.

Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury, brother of late BNP leader Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury, is also an accused in the case.

The order was passed on Wednesday (April 1) by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Sefatullah following an application filed by the complainant’s side.

The accused against whom arrest warrants were issued are Samir Quader Chowdhury and Shakir Quader Chowdhury, sons of the MP, along with Marina Irshad and Ashikur Rahman.

Complainant’s lawyer Zakir Hossain Jewel said the day was fixed for hearing in the case. The accused had been on bail until the scheduled date. Among the 15 accused, nine appeared before the court. Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury and his security guard Rakib Chowdhury could not attend due to a parliamentary session, while the other four accused failed to appear, citing their presence in Chattogram.

The case was filed on September 14 last year by Farzana Anna Islam, wife of late industrialist Mainul Islam. The court took cognisance of the complaint and directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate and submit a report.

According to the case statement, in 2006 Mainul Islam and his wife entered into an agreement with Arefin Shamsul Alam to construct a six-storey building in the Model Town area of Gulshan. The couple took possession of the building on December 19, 2007. Mainul Islam died on March 24, 2008.

After his death, Shamsul Alam allegedly attempted to seize control of the property with the help of other accused persons. They allegedly prepared forged documents and tried to occupy the entire second floor of the building.

The complaint further states that following the July uprising in 2024, the accused became more aggressive. On July 14, they allegedly entered the house, broke locks of several flats and attempted to take possession while demanding Tk 50 million in extortion and issuing threats to Farzana Anna Islam.

On August 28, the accused allegedly returned, assaulted family members, looted Tk 1 million in cash and 10 bhori of gold ornaments, and again threatened to seize the flats if their extortion demand was not met. Before leaving, they allegedly vandalised the building’s ground-floor garage, causing damage estimated at nearly Tk 30 million.

The injured victims later received treatment at Kurmitola General Hospital.
