A Dhaka court has exonerated Ron Haque Sikder and Dipu Haque Sikder from the charges in a case filed by Exim Bank Director Sirajul Islam last year.

The court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate delivered the verdict on Thursday after the Detective Branch (DB) of police submitted the final report in the case to the court on August 9.

Sirajul Islam filed the case with the Gulshan police station on May 12, 2020 accusing Ron Haque Sikder and Dipu Haque Sikder of an attempt to shoot dead and torturing Exim Bank managing director and deputy managing director.

The final report said no proof and evidence of firing at the Exim Bank officials were found in the forensic examination by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and investigation by DB.

The report mentioned that though the complainant accused that Ron Haque Sikder kidnapped the Exim Bank MD and DMD from the bank’s head office in Gulshan, they could not provide any CCTV footage or other evidence to substantiate the accusation.

According to the police report, Exim Bank failed to prove that Ron Haque Sikder applied for any loan from the bank though the complainant claimed in the case that the two sides got into a row over mortgage against the loan of Tk 500 crore.

Along with the final report, police submitted an agreement in which two sides reached a compromise stating that the case was filed out of misunderstanding over the business.

In the agreement, the two sides stated that they had good relations for long and pledged that they would maintain the relations in future and would not bring any complaint against each other over the matter in question.

In the hearing on Thursday, the court asked the complainant whether he has any objection to the agreement of compromise and he answered in the negative. Ron Haque Sikder was present in the court during the hearing.

Hearing both the sides, the court exonerated Ron Haque Sikder and Dipu Haque Sikder from the charges in the case.
