The husband had died while the wife survived when a couple took pesticides in Jhenaidah on Friday midnight. The incident took place at Baliadanga village under Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah.
Merina Khatun, elder daughter of Saiful Islam, said her father was a son of Maijuddin Sheikh of Sachilapur village of Sripur upazila in Magura.
He married Laili Khatun, a daughter Ainuddin Mandal at Baliadanga village and leading life as a rickshaw van peddler for last 40 years.
Her parents were locked in quarrel following a trifling matter in the family in the night of Friday and her father Saiful Islam took the pesticides first.
Witnessing the incident by Saiful Islam, her mother Laili Khatun also followed the same way and swallowed the pesticides immediately.
Merina Khatun said locals rescued the duo and sent to Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex. He died when the attending physicians were trying to make his stomach free from poison.
Laili Khatun has been provided treatment at the hospital in a critical state, Merina Khatun said. OC of Shailkupa Police Station Mijanur Rahman said that they will take legal action in this regard.
