Country witnesses waves of mass upsurge after polls schedule

Awami League (AL) General Secretary ObaidulQuader on Sunday said after announcement of the schedule for the 12th national elections a wave of mass upsurge has been created across the country.

"People have a huge interest about the polls....it cannot be excessive to say that how spontaneous the people are today about the elections. Our main target is the young generation who become voters for the first time," he said.

Quader told a meeting at the AL President's Dhanmondi political office in the capital in nthe afternoon.

About the arson attacks on train and bus, he said now the politics of the opposition party is practicing in Bangladesh is not constructive criticism, rather a mere sabotage.

"This black hand of sabotage must be broken. They set fire to train stopped at stations at night. The politics of sneak attacks must be resisted and prevented," the AL general secretary said. AL Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud said the AL workers have to do three things before the elections. 

"Firstly, the BNP's torching on vehicles in the name of politics should be publicised. Secondly, BNP's silence on Israel's attack should be pointed out. Thirdly, there is no alternative to electing boat for development and smart Bangladesh. These issues should be brought before the country's people," he said. Sub-committee convener of AL election conducting committee Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury and its member secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap were, among  others, present.
