Country sees lowest daily Covid deaths in 9 weeks

Bangladesh registered 80 more deaths from Covid-19 till 8am Saturday, taking the total number of deaths to 25,926.

The single-day deaths fell below 100 for the first time in more than two months as the health officials reported 77 deaths on June 26.

The country recorded 3,436 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 14, 89,589, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday.

The death rate now stands at 1.74 percent in the country, as per the press release. 

Samples were collected from 24,652 people in during this time. 25 thousand 129 have been tested. A total of 88, 41,462 samples have been tested in the country so far.

The current positivity rate stands at 13.67 percent and the overall positivity rate stands at 16.85 percent. 

Among the 80 deceased, 41 were men, and 39 were women. Of the victims, 101 died in different hospitals across the country and one died at home. Of them, two between 31-40, 12 between 41-50, 23 between 51-60 and 43 were above 60 years old.

According to the department-wise analysis, 34 people died in these 24 hours in Dhaka division. 21 died in Chittagong, 1 in Rajshahi, 9 in Khulna, 4 in Barisal, 6 in Sylhet, 3 in Rangpur and 2 in Mymensingh. 

During this period 4,861Covid-19 patients have recovered. Up until now, a total of 14, 09,231people have recovered from the virus and the recovery rate stands at 94.61 percent.
