Bangladesh registered 172 more deaths from Covid-19 till 8am Wednesday, taking the total number of death to 24,719.
The country recorded 7,248 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 1,440,644, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday.
The death rate now stands at 1.72 percent in the country, added the release.
The current positivity rate stands at 17.67 percent and the overall positivity rate stands at 16.91 percent.
Among the 172 deceased, 94 were men, and 78 were women. Of the victims, 192 died in different hospitals across the country and three died at home.
67 of the deceased were from Dhaka division, 47 from Chattogram, 16 from Khulna, 15 from Sylhet, 10 from Mymensigh, eight from Rajshahi, five from Barisal and four were from Rangpur.
A total of 41,014 samples were tested across the country till 8am Wednesday.
During this period 12,112 Covid-19 patients have recovered. Up until now, a total of 1,327,028 people have recovered from the virus and the recovery rate stands at 92.11 percent.
As of Wednesday, 4,398,234 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 209,560,106 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
