The total number of unemployed people stood at 24.30 lakh in the July-September period of 2023, down from 26.10 lakh in the corresponding period of the last year, according to the quarterly Labour Force Survey of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS). Therefore, country’s 24.30 lakh people are still unemployed.

Generally, it takes 28 years to complete the academic activities. It is regrettable that frustration arises among job-seekers when they cannot get jobs even after 30 years of study.

The rate of education as well as higher education has increased remarkably under the present government, resulting in rise of unemployed youths.

Considering the overall unemployed situation in the country, the government will have to take development projects aimed at reducing unemployment and making youths self-employed in the country.

Set a target that

 none will remain

 unemployed in

 coming days

In this regard, technical education should be given the highest priority to eliminate unemployment. If the government takes all-out efforts in order to generate job opportunities for the youths and ensure sustainable economic development of the country by taking up more new projects, a large number of unemployed youths will get jobs.

We believe as the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has vowed to advance the country further by overcoming all hurdles, her government will be working to create employment opportunity for the youths. It should be imperative for the authorities concerned to set a target that none will remain unemployed in coming days. Apart from the government, the youths will also have to develop themselves with a mindset of not running after the jobs rather to generate employments. A large number of students are achieving honours and master’s degrees from different higher educational institutions every year. But a major portion of them remains unemployed in the country. We think it will not be wise to sit idle awaiting jobs rather our youth should use their talents in creating employment opportunities.

Besides, they will also utilise their innovative ideas, efficiency, and strength to expand the country’s job market. Therefore, none will remain jobless in the country if the youths have self-confidence and self-dignity.
