Laying emphasis on the practice of democracy, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday said that the political and economic future of the country depends on the upcoming national election.
“Democracy itself is both the alternative and the complement to democracy. The fate of the nation and its people depends on the next election,” he said while addressing an extended meeting of Thakurgaon Sadar upazila and Ruhia Thana BNP executives at District Shilpakala Academy auditorium.
He urged party leaders and activists to act prudently in the coming days, warning against repeating political mistakes that could lead to the return of fascism.
Neither the people nor they (BNP) want to see fascism again. The sooner the election is held, the faster the national crisis will end, Fakhrul said.
Chaired by Thakurgaon district BNP president Mirza Faisal Amin, general secretary Paigam Ali and other local leaders, among others were present at the meeting.
