Country’s GDP likely to grow by 6.03pc in FY23

The country’s GDP is likely to grow at a rate of 6.03 percent in the current fiscal year (FY) 2022-23, State Minister for Planning ShamsulAlam said. 

He disclosed this information while replying to a question from reporters at the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Thursday.

This growth rate exceeds the estimates made by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank (WB).

According to The Bangladesh Development Update April 2023 by the World Bank, the country's gross domestic product (GDP) is likely to increase by 5.2 percent in the fiscal year 2023 while the Asian Development Bank (ADB) reported in April that Bangladesh's GDP will grow by 5.3 percent in FY23.

However, the government's initial projection of GDP was 6.5 percent.

Replying to another question, Planning Minister MA Mannansaid that the per capita income during the current fiscal has increased compared to that of the last year if it is calculated in Taka. However, it has decreased during the time if it is calculated in dollar, he mentioned.

He also said that the inflation has slightly reduced in April compare to thatwas in March.

When asked whether the government would take projects for appeasing people ahead of the next general election, Mannan said that the government would continue to work to materialise its election manifesto. 

“We will continue to work as per our election manifesto and work for ensuring people’s welfare,” Mannan added.

He said that they would continue their efforts also in the next year to expedite the rate of ADP implementation.
