The ongoing situation of flood in the central part of the country could further deteriorate as rivers continue to swell leading to possibilities of floods.

At the same time, the flood situation in the Teesta basin in the north is predicted to remain stable.

The Water Development Board's Flood Forecasting and Warning Center on Tuesday gave the warning in their latest report on rainfall and river conditions.

According to the report, water levels in all major rivers in the country, except the Meghna Basin, were rising rapidly, which could continue for the next couple of days. The flood situation in the northern Teesta basin is likely to remain stable for the next few days.

The report also stated that the flood situation in the lower parts of Rajbari and Faridpur districts could worsen by the next day.

Flood forecasting and warning center executive engineer, Arifuzzaman Bhuiyan told Bangladesh Post that according to the mathematical models of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department and the Indian Meteorological Department, moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast for the next few days in the south-eastern and southern coastal areas of the country. As a result, water levels in rivers in the southeastern Cox's Bazar district and coastal areas in the south may rise rapidly during this time.

He further said that in the last 36 hours, the water of Padma River has increased by 15 cm at Goaland Point and is flowing over 1 cm of danger zone.

According to the Meteorological Department, the low pressure is located in the coastal area of Andhra Pradesh near the West-Central Bay of Bengal and nearby North-West Bay of Bengal and is currently located in the North-West Bay of Bengal. It may move north-west. Monsoon winds are fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate to strong in North Bay.

In the next 24 hours from Tuesday morning, most parts of Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and many parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusts.
