Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed on Tuesday said the registered number of disabled people of the country is 30 lakh 31 thousand and 270.
The social welfare minister said this while responding to a star-marked question made by M Mojaffar Hossen of Jamalpur-5 at the question-answer session which was tabled at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) here with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
Programme on registration, identifying and providing identity cards to the disabled people at the district and upazila level across the country is going on by the Social Welfare Department as per the Persons with Disabilities Rights and Protection Act 2013 and Rights and Protection of Persons with Disabilities Rules 2015.
Under the programme, he said various information including the number and types of people with disabilities also being protected in Disability Information System (DIS).
The registered disabled persons in the country have reached 30,31,270 till June 12, 2023.
