Falling of leaves from the trees and blowing of northern chilly wind are giving off telltale signs that winter is creeping ever closer.
The winter is set to arrive earlier this year with its full force as the cold wind from the north has already started blowing over the country following the disappearance of the monsoon breeze.
The northwest districts have already reported experiencing late evening and early morning light fog with dews covering the grasses over the last few days.
The northern wind has caused temperatures to drop to as low as 16 degrees Celsius in many districts spread over north to midwestern parts of the country, including the capital Dhaka.
In the northern most district of Panchagarh people were seen walking through dense fog, shivering in cold. Thick fog is forcing vehicles to keep their headlights on in day light as well. Meanwhile, people have already started buying warm clothes for winter.
“Those traveling in the morning put on warm clothes now. We have already prepared thick blankets and clothes for ourselves ahead of the cold season,” Fahim, a local youth told Bangladesh Post on Saturday.
Talking to the residents of different areas of the capital, it was known that the winter caught many by surprise as it appeared a bit too earlier than the previous years. The temperature has started to decline gradually. Many people in the capital Dhaka have also started taking out blankets and mattresses.
Regarding the capital, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) bulletin reads that the sky in Dhaka will remain clear on Saturday. The day temperature may also decrease with time. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature recorded in Dhaka was 20 degrees Celsius on Friday.
It also predicted that Chattogram region may experience light to moderate rain. Elsewhere in the country, the weather may remain dry. Meanwhile, the duration of the day has decreased.
