The Comilla University authorities have decided to waive students' residence and transportation fees as the university has been closed since March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, registrar (additional in-charge) Prof Md. Abu Taher told Bangladesh Post.

He said, as per the recommendation of 61st Academic Council meeting, the 80th syndicate meeting (of the university) on June 27 took the decision of waiver. Considering the students demand, the fees have been waived till the university opens and whoever have already paid the fees during the closure will be adjusted soon as well, he added.

Prof Taher also said, a committee has been formed to reduce the post-graduation admission fee amid the pandemic situation. The committee will examine the feasibility and (if) make a recommendation, the final decision will come from the next syndicate meeting.

The committee is headed by treasurer Professor Md. Asaduzzaman as the convener, registrar (additional in-charge) Professor Abu Taher as the member secretary and deans of all faculties as the members.

Earlier on June 14, the students formed a human chain demanding waiver of hall fee for residential students, transportation fees and reduction of postgraduate admission fee.
