The Comilla University authorities have decided to go online class one day a week in an effort to save the electricity, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A F M Abdul Moyeen said on Sunday.

The decision was made in an Academic Council meeting that would be effective from August 1.

VC Abdul Moyeen said, ‘The decision was taken following the austerity measures of the government. The whole world is going through economic crisis. Universities are more responsible institutions. We should lead in solving the crisis.’

According to the decision, the university will take online classes on every Thursday.

Earlier, University Grants Commission urged the public universities to be frugal in the use of electricity in accordance with the instructions taken by the government to deal with the deficit.
