CoU student wins International Award in Photography

Arafat Tarif, a former student of Comilla University English department, was chosen as one of the winners of the ShotByMi 2020 contest, an international photography competition of Xiaomi mobile-phone users, based on Mi Communication apps.

His street photo of ‘Duck Dynasty' got second prize in the ‘Outstanding' category. The photo was displayed at Xiaomi's different brands shop’s billboards in Spain.

Global mobile-phone company Xiaomi organized the app-based photography competition for all the users of this brand. Thousands of photographers from around the world participated in the three-stage contest.

Of them, one was selected as the Grand Winner and 10 as the Outstanding Winner. The judges of the contest were famous photographers of the National Geographic Channel.

Arafat will receive a Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro handset and certificate as prizes. Another Bangladeshi, Arif Zaman, was also in top ten in the ‘Outstanding' category.

Arafat Tarif also won various photography contests at national level. He is the president of Comilla University Photography Society and was the founding joint convenor of the organisation. The organisation has been working to popularise photography in Comilla University.

Arafat said about his achievement, ‘there were eminent judges. Conquering was not very easy as thousands of competitors across the world took part in the competition. In the end, winning is very satisfying. I will try to do something better in the future.’
