CoU Correspondent: Comilla University authorities have reiterated their decision to ban all forms of political activities on campus, including meetings, rallies, processions, and inviting political leaders. The announcement was made in a notice signed by members of the university’s Proctorial Body on Wednesday.
According to the notice, in line with the university’s first Syndicate meeting, the 100th Syndicate session reaffirmed the prohibition of political gatherings, rallies, and protests on campus following demands from general students. Although political organizations had respected the decision over the past year, the administration observed attempts by several groups to revive political activities in recent times, defying official instructions.
The notice further stated that the university administration is urging all political organizations to comply with the ban. Failure to do so will compel the administration to take action against those involved under university regulations.
It is known that on August 9 last year, during the 100th Syndicate meeting, the earlier decision of the first Syndicate session to ban political activities was re-implemented. However, despite this, several political organizations have since carried out programs on campus. Most recently, on September 2, the university unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal organized a protest rally on campus as part of a central program.
Regarding the matter, Comilla University Proctor Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Hakim said, “Over the past year, all political organizations respected the ban on campus politics. However, recently we have noticed attempts to revive political activities by ignoring administrative instructions. To caution them, we issued this fresh notice. If any further political activity takes place, actions will be taken in line with university regulations.”
