We all remember that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had publicly announced her policy of “zero tolerance to corruption” against the backdrop of pervasive corruption in the country. She just did not stop there but matched her words with action. As a result, we have seen how RAB and police swooped down on powerful people engaged in illegal casinos, tender manipulation, liquor and extortion business etc., in the country under the very nose of the administration.
Some big fishes belonging to Jubo League were involved in such businesses but this time around they could not get away. Corruption in the purchase of various essential items in important projects has also been detected and the government has promptly given necessary instructions to the law enforcers to take action. Meanwhile, drug traders, especially yaba dealers are getting caught almost every day.
This remains to be said that corruption in
many sectors has come under control but
it is still prevalent in many other sectors
The interesting part of the story is that the PM has also issued warning to the ministers by saying, “Be careful, I'll always keep you under my surveillance to see who's doing what”. She has also made it clear to the government officials, especially those who are involved in various mega projects, to stay away from corruption. She reminded them that her government has increased their salary and other benefits therefore she can always expect officials to work sincerely and honestly.
The prime minister has reasserted it on a number of occasions that the anti-corruption drive will continue until the elimination of corruption from all strata of society. She has also made it clear that everyone is equal in the eye of the law and that the laws of the land are being strictly enforced against all the criminals irrespective of their political identity and views.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s message to the terrorists is loud and clear. She will not allow the land to be used to hatch anti-people conspiracy and let loose a reign of terror on the people.
This remains to be said that corruption in many sectors has come under control but it is still prevalent in many other sectors such health, education, local government, banking, legal system and so on. Attention has to be given to drive out the residues of corruption from these sectors as well. Only then shall we be successful in creating golden Bengal.
