Corruption in BTCL won’t be tolerated: Palak

State Minister for Posts, Telecommunication, and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak has warned of tougher action against any corruption in the Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Ltd (BTCL). 

Corruption by any BTCL officials will not be tolerated. If anybody is found involved in corruption and irregularities, stern action will be taken against them, Palak said while addressing BTLC officials in the capital on Wednesday, 

The state minister also said that BTCL has to make profit in the current financial year and for this, all the officials of the organisation have to work hard to compete with the rival companies.

He stressed the need for optimal utilisation of government investment and manpower, issuing a warning that  everyone will be brought under under scrutiny. 

 “Honesty, transparency, and accountability is the key to making BTCL smart and profitable. Nothing can be hidden. Concealment means there is corruption,” Palak said.

He further laid emphasis on the importance of strong audits, both internal and external,  

Palak called for a detailed analysis of earning revenue and expenditure over the last five years.

 “We want to build a Smart Bangladesh, where we aim to encourage data-base decision-making. BTCL will do what is good for the people and how it can increase the quality of service by preventing wastage.”

The state minister set a five-month timeline for strategic actions based on the reports received, aiming to enhance service delivery, reduce costs, and eliminate inefficiencies. 

BTCL must be a profitable organisation and to this effect, it has to work with honesty and transparency, Palak said. 

Referring to the Prime Minister’s directive, he also stressed the need for improving BTLC service to the organization profitable.  

He further said that BTCL must stand on its own feet by becoming profitable, and contribute to the vision of a Smart Bangladesh.
