Coronavirus cases 16,600, deaths 250

Eleven more patients died and 969 fresh cases were identified overnight as Bangladesh hit a grim milestone of 250 Covid-19 deaths and 16,660 coronavirus cases on Tuesday.

Additional Director General for Health Prof Nasima Sultana at the regular virtual bulletin said they had tested 6,773 samples at 38 RT-PCR laboratories across Bangladesh during the last 24 hours till 8am of Tuesday.

The recovery count rose to 3,147 as 245 patients were discharged from hospitals during the period.
Bangladesh first recorded the coronavirus cases on March 8. It was only six cases on March 23 and less than 200 even in the first week of April. Then it started to rise with the increasing number of testing. Monday was the highest case of over 1000.
But most of the patients are taking treatment staying from home.

Prof Nasima said among the total infections, 18.52 percent patients have recovered so far, while 1.53 percent died.
She said among the new 11 deaths, two are in their 70s, five in their 60s, three in their 50s and one in his 40s. Of the fatalities, seven are male and four female.

Five of them were from Dhaka city and the rest from outside as the virus has spread to all districts.
The government is enforcing a general holiday with is expected to be extended after May 16 deadline.
But shops have been allowed to open before the Eid-ul-Fitr festival, despite experts concern.
Dhaka and Narayangani are two hotspots of the virus.

Dhaka city has been considered as the worst-affected with 59.27 percent of COVID cases as of Monday.
Division-wise, Dhaka division is at the top position with 81.28 percent infected cases out of total coronavirus patients, according to the government’s disease monitoring arm IEDCR.
