Published : 21 May 2021 09:09 PM

After a slight decrease just before the Eid-ul-fitre, Coronavirus is spreading in a virulent form in frontier villages of Rajshahi, mainly in Chapainawabganj.

As a result, the number of Coronavirus infected patients is once again increasing in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. A half of the total Coronavirus patients at RMCH are from Chapainawabganj district and of those patients more than fifty percent are also from frontier villages under Shibganj upazila of C'nawabganj.

However, by watching such a sudden increase of Corona patients from the frontier villages of C'nawabganj, RMCH authorities were worried and working to be sure whether any of those patients visited India recently or whether they were carrying the Indian strings of the Coronavirus. Under such a situation, RMCH authorities have also requested the administration of C'nawabganj to observe the on-going lockdown strictly.

According to RMCH sources, at present 135 patients have been admitted and taking treatment at the Corona wards of the hospital. Of these patients 39 patients are with Corona positive while the rests are bearing the symptoms of Coronavirus. Of those patients 12 have been admitted to the ICU. More than a half of the total patients are from Chapainawabganj district.

Meanwhile, at least four patients being attacked with Coronavirus have died in Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj during last 24-hour. Of them one is from Rajshahi and three are from C'nawabganj district.

According to a report of the Health Directorate of Rajshahi division so far 524 patients by being attacked with Coronavirus died in Rajshahi division of those 308 are from Bogura district, 78 from Rajshahi district, 25 in Chapainawabganj district, 37 in Naogaon district, 20 in Natore district, 11 in Joypurhat district, 23 in Sirajganj district and 22 in Pabna district. However, on Thursday 165 Coronavirus patients recovered from the disease in the division. So far a total of 33,495 patients were attacked with Coronavirus in the division out of which 20,559 have been recovered. So far, 3,751 Covid-19 patients have been admitted in various hospitals of the division.

According to sources on May-19 RMCH was holding 126 Covid-19 patients in the Corona wards. Of these patients 66 patients were from Chapainawabganj, three from Natore and the rest were from other districts. The authorities of RMCH are worrying at an abnormal increased rate of admission of Covid-19 patients from C'nawabganj district. Again, of those Covid-19 patients from C'nawabganj most of them are from the frontier villages of Shibganj upazila. At present 31 Corona positive patients of Shibganj upazila are under treatment at RMCH Corona ward. 14 patients were taking treatment at the ICUs of RMCH on Wednesday of whom eight were from C'nawabganj. RMCH authorities think many of those patients visited India recently but those patients or their attendants were not admitting that. The samples from their blood and saliva have been sent to Dhaka for testing whether they were carrying the Indian strings of Coronavirus.

Meanwhile, Civil Surgeon of Chapainawabganj Zahid Nazrul Islam informed so far 20 patients with Coronavirus infection have been admitted to the hospitals of the district.

Of them 18 are in C'nawabganj sadar hospital, one each at Nachole and Gomastapur upazila health complexes. He further informed, of those patients most have returned from Dhaka during the Eid and only one person returned from India through Benapole frontier on April-18.

Civil Surgeon Zahid Nazrul further said, on Thursday 24 Bangladeshi entered Bangladesh from India. All them have been put under institutional quarantine.

Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani, Director of RMCH informed the hospital authorities are worried with an increased number of Covid-19 patients from  Chapainwabganj. It is not being possible to confirm whether any of those patients returned from India through illegal ways.

Director of Health of Rajshahi division Habibul Ahsan Taluder said, there is no system to test the samples of Corona patients to ensure whether any of the patients of Chapainawabganj were carrying the Indian strings of the virus. That is why the samples are being sent to Dhaka to test those.
