A large number of Coronavirus patients from rural areas of Rajshahi are being admitted to the Corona unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in recent days, informed Brig Gen Shamim Yazdani, Director of RMCH during a press briefing on Tuesday morning.
Shamim Yazdani further informed, a total of 56 patients have been admitted to the Corona unit of RMCH during the last 24-hour ending 8-00 am Tuesday. Of the total admitted patients 34 patients are from rural areas which is 60.72 percent of the total patients from the district.
Earlier on Monday, a total of 61 patients got admitted at the hospital of whom 36 were from rural areas-a 59.02 percent of the total admitted patients while earlier on Sunday among 54 admitted patients at the hospital 27 were from rural areas- a 50 percent of the total.
Shamim Yazdani further said,' the rate of deaths from among the rural Corona patients is also higher. The situation of the rural areas is turning horrendous nowadays. The infection could not be checked due to not taking the decision by the patients and their guardians at the proper time. As a result, the record of the number of admitted Corona infected patients from rural areas is breaking every day but, there is still time. We should pay attention to the rural areas in addition to the town or city areas'.
Inviting the local administration, health workers, public representatives and the voluntary organisations to pay attention to the rural areas, Brig Gen Shamim Yazdani said,’ If they do not come forward, the situation of the rural areas will turn further worrying. Only a few are testing their samples even after the symptoms of Coronavirus in them. While their condition is turning critical, they are rushing to the hospital when we have nothing to do. As a result, they are dying.’
Meanwhile, 13 more patients by being attacked with Coronavirus have died at RMCH during the last 24-hour period ( ending 8-00 am Tuesday). Of the dead, 12 are from Rajshahi and one is from Natore. Of the total dead, six died in the ICUs. With the dead, the total number of deaths at the Corona unit of the hospital so far during this month (June) stands at 229.
Among 56 admitted patients during the last 24-hour at RMCH, 37are of Rajshahi. At the same time 61 left the hospital after getting recovered.
Till 8-00am of Tuesday, a total of 393 patients were taking treatment at the Corona unit of the hospital as against 309 regular beds. Of them 254 are of Rajshahi, 61 of Chapainawabganj, 33 of Natore and 30 of Naogaon while 19 are taking treatment at the ICUs.
