The number of corona patients is increasing radically day by day in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna out of all the nine upazilas of the district. As of Friday, 4,937 corona patients have been identified in the district. Ishwardi Upazila is at the top in terms of infection and detection rate, said Pabna Civil Surgeon.

According to the Pabna Civil Surgeon's Office, after examining the samples of 1,398 people till Friday afternoon, another 244 corona infected people have been identified in all 9 upazilas of Pabna district. The number of detection in a day is the highest ever number in the district. Earlier, 114 people infected with the virus were reportedly identified on Wednesday and 192 on Thursday.

The total number of victims in the district stood at 4,938. Ishwardi is at the top in terms of being attacked and identified. In the last three days, 434 people were infected in Ishwardi. From June 29 afternoon to June 30 afternoon 114, from June 30 afternoon to July 1 afternoon 136 and from July 1 afternoon to July 2 afternoon 184 people were infected.

FA Asma Khan, Health and Family Planning Officer of Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, said most of the victims were from outside of Ishwardi.

They work in various organizations including Rooppur Nuclear Project and Ishwardi EPZ. Her idea is that the infection is spreading through them due to non-compliance with hygiene rules. She said most of the affected patients are receiving treatment from their respective homes.

Pabna Civil Surgeon Manisar Chowdhury said that the spread of corona in the neighboring districts of Rajshahi, Natore and Kushtia is highly on the rise.

Strict lockdown is also going on in Pabna to prevent infection. The police administration is working hard. Hopefully the detection rate will come down.

The first corona patient was identified in Pabna on 9 May. The virus was first detected in the body of a Narayanganj returned worker in Chatmohar upazila of the district.

Meanwhile, today (Sunday) marks the fourth day of a seven-day nationwide lockdown to prevent the spread of corona infection.

Due to the strict position of the police administration, almost all government and private offices, factories and businesses in Ishwardi are closed.

Visiting the spot it was seen that the law enforcement forces are working from different positions on different roads of Ishwardi.

Except rickshaws and food transport vehicles no other vehicles are allowed to ply on the road. Even pedestrians are being turned away after interrogating them.
