A 100-bed field hospital has been set up at the BK Convention Center in Patenga under the initiative of CMP and Vidyananda Foundation. The hospital will start functioning early next month with Vidyananda’s funding and CMP collaboration.

If the hospital is launched, the medical condition of Patenga residents will be alleviated. Moreover, employment opportunities for 88 persons will be created. The functioning of the hospital is likely to start early next month. Already 40 percent of the work of the hospital has been completed.

It is learned that the field hospital will have central oxygen system and high flow nasal oxygen cannulae support. There will be separate arrangements for outdoor, Covid and non-Covid patients.

12 physicians will be available round the clock to treat the patients. There will be 18 nurses and 50 volunteers working there too. Besides, a medical team will be formed with specialist doctors from Chattogram.

Bidyananda Foundation volunteer and Chittagong Field Hospital coordinator Jamal Uddin said, “We mainly work to save life. The current situation in Chattogram is very terrible and tragic.

Patient are dying due to lack of oxygen, which our volunteers could not take. It hurt us a lot and then we thought of doing something for the patients of Chattogram”.

He added, “We will have all the support we need in this field hospital until a patient is given ventilation. Our work is already 40 percent complete. I hope we will be able to start providing services from the first week of July”.

CMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Public Relations) Mohammad Abubakar Siddique said a temporary field hospital was being set up with funding from the Vidyananda Foundation and CMP collaboration.

The people of the city will be able to get a completely free corona test at this hospital. In addition, if infected, they will get medical services for free.

He said the rapid rise in the number of people infected with the corona virus has led to a shortage of space in government hospitals.

The special field hospital is being set up considering the medical need of the common man. Medical services at the voluntary hospital will continue until the current situation returns to normal.
