There is no scope of examining coronavirus outside Dhaka due to limitation of sufficient test kits and skilled manpower.
To prevent the spread of coronavirus, the government is repeatedly saying that hospitals across the country are ready.
Up until now, the field health care centers have not yet been fully prepared.
Multiple officials of Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) stated that coronavirus detection is a complex process and demands stern quality control. Most public and private hospitals in the country do not have the work force and technical capacity to diagnose the virus.
If someone is infected with coronavirus immediately, he or she needed to be separated from relatives to skip spread of furthermore infection.
Earlier, IEDCR advised through a press conference to remain self-isolated at least fourteen days for international returnees.
As a result, if anyone outside the capital senses the symptoms of the disease, he has to wait for long to send blood, nose saliva through courier service. There is a high possibility of delay in initiating the treatment of the injured person as well.
However, due to the lack of trained manpower and lack of necessary technology, the authorities have no plans to extend the corona test to hospitals outside the capital.
In the meantime, three people have been infected with coronavirus in the country and recovered.
IEDCR director Professor Meerjady Sabrina Flora said 10 new samples have been tested. The result of the test came out negative.
If a suspected patient admitted to a hospital outside the capital, the concerned hospital authorities are reporting it to the IEDCR. The IEDCR team will then visit the hospital to collect samples from the patient, she added.
IEDCR Principal Scientific Officer Dr. ASM Alamgir said, “We examine blood, saliva and throat samples from the patient, which requires special skills. Virus identification from samples is a complex process.”
“The process requires strict temperature control and a pollution-free environment. Otherwise, the samples may show negative results.”
Physician Dr ABM Abdullah said, "Covid-19 is a completely new disease. Therefore, we do not have enough manpower and technology to identify it across the country.”
Chattogram Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said, “It is a new virus. The method of detecting virus has not yet been introduced. Therefore, blood samples of the person's blood and saliva are being sent to Dhaka to know if the virus has been transmitted to the body.”
Director General of the Department of Health Dr Abul Kalam Azad said, "Medical colleges have Intensive Care Units (ICU’s). However, not all ICUs can afford to corona patients as the other patients' need it.”
However, materials such as personal protective clothing, masks and hand sanitizers are being sent to the area where they are sought, he added.
Director of Department Health (Hospital) Dr Aminul Islam said, "They have so far prepared four to five beds at district and upazila level hospitals across the country."
“No ICU has been prepared yet outside Dhaka. The ICU is planned to expand beyond Dhaka soon”, he added.
Jashore Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Abu Shahin said, "As per the direction of the department, they have taken all necessary preparations. However, there is no ICU bed or ventilator in any of the government hospitals in this district.”
As a result, if someone infected with a coronavirus comes with a critical condition, there is no oxygen or nebulizer to support him, he added.
