The hanging body of a police officer was recovered from his residence inside the police station compound in Gowainghat upazila in Sylhet on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Sudip Barua, 32, son of late Lal Barua of Rangunia upazila in Chattogram. He is a sub-inspector of Gowainghat Police Station.
Salauddin, duty officer of the police station, said Sudip went to his residence from the police station around 2pm. After a while, his hanging body was recovered.
Officer-in-charge of the police station Abdul Jalil said the body was sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
