Three people, including a police officer, were killed in two separate road accidents Malibagh–Mouchak and Khilgaon flyovers in Dhaka late last night and early Thursday.
Two people died in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle on the Malibagh–Mouchak flyover around 4:45am, police said.
The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Noyon Talukdar, 60, and motorcyclist Yasin Arafat Ashik, 21, a college student.
Ramna Police Station Sub-Inspector Sushanta Kumar said the collision occurred near the Fortune Market crossing on the flyover, leaving both vehicles severely damaged.
Police rescued the two victims in critical condition and took them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared them dead. The bodies were sent to the DMCH morgue for autopsy.
In another incident, a police officer was killed after a covered van hit his motorcycle on Khilgaon flyover around 11:45pm yesterday.
The victim, Rubel Haque, 32, was a nayek of the Bangladesh Police and was posted at Rajarbagh Police Lines.
Confirming the accident, Khilgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shafiqul Islam said Rubel died on the spot.
Police later seized the covered van, but the driver fled. Rubel's body is currently at Mugda General Hospital and will be sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.
Police said investigations are under way into both crashes.
