All development projects in Dhaka should be coordinated with City Corporationswithin October 1.
If any organization does not come into coordination within this period, it will have to wait till next October to implement their development activities, said Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
He made the remarks while addressing a meeting on formulating a time-bound action plan to build modern Dhaka organised by Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative (LGRD) ministry at a city hotel on Thursday.
After the coordination, the service providers will be able to implement their own projects, said DSCC Mayor.
“Of course you can implement your projects but you can’t cut the road three times in one place instead of one. With the permission of the City Corporation, you can cut a place only once,” he said.
“Whether your project is funded by the World Bank, ADB, GOB or any other organization, you should coordinate with the city corporation,” Taposh added.
He also said, “Besides Dhaka, urbanisation with adequate civic amenities should be created in cities around Dhaka including Gazipur, Narayanganj, Manikganj, Narsingdi and Munshiganj. If this can be done, the pressure on Dhaka will be reduced.”
He further said, “Dhaka is the capital. You should not make Dhaka a slum. We will ensure all the facilities of the capital but we have to avoid Dhaka-centric thinking to stay.”
Speaking on the occasion, LGRD Minister Tajul Islam said, “The country is like an umbrella. There are city corporations, municipalities, RAJUK and there are various ministries including the Ministry of housing and public works. The city corporation says to hand over the responsibility of canal and drainage system to them.”
“I have to give the responsibility in such a way that the city corporation can work. We must address where city corporations need the support and where it need to increase capacity. Corporations around the world are doing just that,” he added.
