The importance of cooperative societies in the country cannot be emphasised enough right now in this time of crisis. It is at this time that communities have come together and can be crucial in aiding the people through local means. It augurs well in the sense that the regions where government and private facilities have failed to reach will be able to avail the services of cooperatives to remove their plight.

As per a report published in this daily, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday stressed the need for formation of village multipurpose cooperative societies to rid the country of poverty completely. This is true, as there are areas where transportation is difficult or the fact that government or private facilities of providing finance is very far away.

In these circumstances, there is a scope of forming cooperative amongst villagers to provide common economic assistance through their jointly-owned enterprise. This will help uplift their way of life and living standards. The number of cooperative societies and its members now stands at 1,90,534 and 1,14,84,747 respectively.

This will help uplift their way of

life and living  standards

The Prime Minister expressed her desire for the participation of more women in the cooperatives which would ultimately work in decreasing the level of corruption in the country. In this way the women will also be able to help their families gain solvency.

Since there are people who are already connected with cooperatives, there is a big responsibility of the cooperative authorities to provide ample means of redirecting the lifestyles of the people for the better. This will ultimately help the country to gain the economic boost and also a better standard of living for the rural areas where it has been suffering for long.

Above all, the government’s support in creating cooperatives in the country is something that newcomers desperately need. And it is this support and mutual cooperation amongst the citizens of  the country that will advance the economy further in the long run.
