However, in these times of turmoil the bond that is shared among the governments has become tighter. This has resulted in the forming on a new cooperation to fight the novel coronavirus. Easrlier, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with leaders of other SAARC countries held a video conference on March 15 with a view to taking a collaborative regional approach to containing the spread of the virus. Modi also set up a SAARC fund with initial contribution of $10million by India. This fund can prove to be beneficial for the SAARC countries.

A report published in this daily projects that Bangladesh is the first to be benefitted by this fund as already the country has received a set of medical logistics from India from the SAARC emergency fund to fight off coronavirus. The report mentioned a significant number of surgical masks and doctor’s head covers were presented by the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Riva Ganguly Das to Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen as a show of India’s commitment to Bangladesh.

This is a definite show of good faith on India’s part and Bangladesh too can adhere to this by utilizing these essential supplies properly. The authorities concerned must take care so that none of these supplies are wasted without proper oversight. Only regional cooperation and international ties can play a massive supporting role to counter coronavirus.
