Convicted UP chairman suspended

Shayestaganj Union Parishad Chairman, Md Bulbul Khan, who was sentenced to ten years in the arms case, was suspended. However, he is currently out on bail.

He was sacked on in a circular signed by Mohammad Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, deputy secretary of the Union Parishad-1 branch of the local government department under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives.

At the same time, a notice has been issued within ten working days as to why he will not be removed from the post of chairman.

The notification said, Shayestaganj Upazila 6th Shayestaganj Union Parishad Chairman, Bulbul Khan has been sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment by a special tribunal case.

Therefore, the government thinks that the exercise of power by the Union Parishad is not appropriate from the administrative point of view. The local deputy commissioner has also recommended to take action as per the rules.

Chairman Bulbul was temporarily dismissed under Section 34 (1) of the Local Government (Union Parishad) Act, 2009 for consideration against the public interest, including the Criminal Procedure Council.

Habiganj Deputy Director of Local Government Nurul Islam said that in addition to the temporary dismissal, Chairman Bulbul has been given a notice. If no suitable reply is given within ten working days, the next decision will be taken by the concerned ministry.
