The third death anniversary of Zainul Haque Sikder, a valiant freedom fighter, renowned philanthropist, and founder of Sikder Group, was observed on Saturday with due solemnity through various programmes.
In observance of the day, a special prayer and dua mahfil and recitation from the Holy Quran were held at his mausoleum on the ZH Sikder Women’s Medical College & Hospital premises at Rayer Bazar, Dhanmondi in the capital.
More than 23,000 people from different strata of the society flocked there to pay homage to the late heroic Freedom Fighter. Family members, relatives and well-wishers, representatives from diverse social and political organizations were present on the occasion. Officials of Sikder Group and its different concerns were present.
Among ZH Sikder's family members Rick Haque Sikder, Ron Haque Sikder, Sean Haque Sikder, Momtajul Haque Sikder along with others were present on the occasion.
Enamul Haque Shamim MP, Jatiya Party (JaPa) leader ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader MP, Member of Parliament of Panchagarh Constituency Naimuzzaman Bhuiya Mukta, Dr. Awlad Hossain MP, senior officials from different government and private sector organisations, public and private sector banks, officials from Police and armed forces divisions, senior officials and employees of all the sister concerns of Sikder Group were present on the occasion.
Zainul Haque Sikder was the pioneer and entrepreneur of many organisations including the first generation private sector commercial bank, the National Bank Ltd. He had established many academic institutions , religious institutions, and a large number of commercial ventures and industries under the umbrella of Sikder Group. His ventures have created a large number of jobs and played a significant role in the country's economic growth.
He was a close associate of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He also played a major role in shaping up many young men who are well ensconced in various spheres of society today.
Passing comment on late ZH Sikder, Jatiya Party (JaPa) leader ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader said that ZH Sikder was a prominent figure known for his significant contributions to the country's development just after independence.
His commendable contributions span across sectors like education, healthcare, banking, business etc.
The event served as a poignant moment to honour the legacy of Zainul Haque Sikder, acknowledging his contributions to the nation as a valiant freedom fighter through his philanthropic endeavours. The presence of various community leaders and organizations highlighted the widespread impact of his life and works on the nation.
