Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said consumer rights protection activities have risen amid coronavirus pandemic across the country.
The government is working to protect consumer rights so that consumers get quality products and services at affordable prices, he added.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar on 'Consumer Rights Strengthening' organised by Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) virtually here today with CAB chairperson Golam Rahman in the chair.
He also said, consumers need to be more aware in protecting consumer rights. The minister called for expanding the activities of CAB to make the people of the country aware of consumer rights.
The National Consumer Rights Protection Department is regularly monitoring the market price so that the consumers are not deceived in buying products amid the coronavirus pandemic, the commerce minister said, adding: “The government wants to maintain fair competition in the market to ensure fair prices of the product. So that no kind of monopoly market is created here.”
He went on saying, if there is a fair competition in the market , the purchasing power of the consumers would increase and they will buy more products with less money.
