Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said that if Aedes mosquito larvae are found in the under construction building, the construction work will be stopped.

He said this after inspecting the renovation work of Kazi Bashir Auditorium (Mahanagar Natyamanch) at Dr. Shaheed Matiur Park in Gulistan of the capital on Wednesday.

Mayor Taposh said, “In various research results and surveys, we have seen that under-construction buildings become large arenas as breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes. Therefore, in dengue control, the developer organisations related to the construction of buildings, especially the rehab, must play a responsible role.

But this time, we will take strict measures against those who fail in this task. If Aedes mosquito larvae are found, not only fine, but construction work will be stopped if necessary’.

DSCC Mayor informed that the campaign to control dengue will be conducted from May this year, according to the action plan and schedule, we have in view of the upcoming Aedes mosquito season, we will hold an exchange meeting with various stakeholders including the Police Administration, Rajuk, Railways, and Public Works Directorate in May.

Its main purpose is to regularly keep the buildings and residences under their control clean. Water should not be allowed anywhere.

As the rainy season will begin in June, our activities are continuing to ensure that we can complete all preparations before the rainy season. If necessary, we will conduct some operations in advance from May, he added.
