In view of the long-standing demand of the people of Santhia upazila in Pabna, a fire service station has been constructed at Chaknandanpur in the upazila that is going to be inaugurated soon.

The station has been made at the initiative of the chairman of the standing committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs Advocate Shamsul Haque Tuku MP.

However, there is anger in the minds of the people as the fire service station has not started operating within the stipulated time. According to the Public Works Department, the station will be inaugurated any time now.

According to the Pabna District Public Works Department sources, the three-storied Santhia Fire Service Station was constructed at Chaknandanpur in Nandanpur mouza of Santhia upazila at a cost of Taka 3 crore 27 lakh with the implementation of Pabna Public Works Division-2.

Sajin Construction company got the work in February of 2016, but the construction work started in September of that year. The construction period was fixed at 18 months but the contractor could not complete the work on time due to various reasons including Corona.

At present, the work of this fire service station is almost 100 percent completed. The only thing left is the installation of the pump machine said, Mominul Islam, Deputy Assistant Engineer of the Public Wporks Department, in charge of the construction work. He also said that it will be inaugurated in a very short time.

Earlier, residents of Santhia Upazila have to rely on the nearby Bera Upazila Fire Service Station for various fire disasters. It is often seen that in the event of a fire, it is not possible to avoid the damage due to fire service vehicles coming to the scene from a long distance. The locals had to bring it under control themselves.

For this reason, the former Minister of State for Home Affairs and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs, Adv. Shamsul Haque Tuku MP, took the initiative to set a fire service station at the Upazila Sadar with the aim of bringing fire service to the doorstep of Santhia residents.

Dulal Mia, Assistant Director of Pabna District Fire Service and Civil Defense, said everything including manpower and vehicles were ready for the Santhia fire service station. They will start the activities as soon as the Public Works Department hands over the building.

Pabna Public Works Department Executive Engineer Anwar Azim said the work on the building is 100 percent complete.

The quality of work is also satisfactory. The building will be handed over within the next 15 days.
