The construction work of Tk 59 crore 28 lakh Bangabandhu Square is going on in full swing at Talaimari area of the city. Already the work of 720 pilings have been completed and work of ground mat-concrete is continuing.
If the work continues according to the schedule, the Bangabandhu Square will be ready for inauguration by June next year, said Sheikh Kamruzzaman, Project Director of Rajshahi Development Authority.
He further said, Bangabandhu Square will consist of a mural of Bangabandhu and a memorial of the Liberation War. In addition, various aspects of life and works of Bangandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be depicted through various artifacts at the Square.
The Supervisor of the project and some labourers working at the site of Bangabandhu Square said that they are working round the clock to complete the work of Bangabandhu Square according to the schedule.
On Sunday last, Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton visited the construction site of Bangabandhu Square and enquired about the overall progress of the ongoing construction work of the square.
During his visit to the site, Mayor Liton mentioned, Bangabandhu is the pride of Bengali nation. For his existence, we are now a free nation. It is a matter of pride for all of us to have some memorial about Bangabandhu in Rajshahi. Bangabandhu Square is being made with such a unique design and collection that people from all across the world will visit this.
Mayor Liton was greeted, among others by RCC Chief Engineer Shariful Islam, Assistant Engineer Haider Ali, Sub-Assistant Engineer Mir Shahriar Sultan Porag, Masud Al Rony and Shamsuzzaman Ratan.
Bangabandhu Square is being constructed on 1.42 acres of land with the facilities of car parking, art gallery, sculpture of Bangabandhu with fountain of water at the basement, while the ground floor will cover 6,333 square-metre with sophisticated sound system, lighting, digital art gallery and Museum.
On the 1,577 square metre area of the first floor, there will be a restaurant, eye-catching landscape, open-floor and arrangement for entertainment. There will be three lifts, a generator, solar panel and a power substation under the project and the interior and landscaping work.
