The Chattogram Zilla Parishad building alike all other Zila Parishad buildings of the country will be turned into a completely modern building.
However, leaving behind other Zilla Parishad's of the country, a modern high-rise Chattogram Zilla Parishad building is being built with its own funds.
The office cum commercial building with two basement floors will have 18 floors. The building has 35% physical progress of work.
The Zilla Parishad wants to relocate its office to the new building in the middle of next year. Chattogram North District Awami League President MA Salam is currently the Chairman of Chattogram Zilla Parishad.
Chattogram Zilla Parishad is constructing a multi-storey building on its own space on about 44 acres of land. The old building is being demolished and a modern multi-storied Zilla Parishad building is being constructed there. Local Government, Rural Development& Cooperatives Minister Tajul Islam and Local Government Department Senior Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed will inaugurate the work of the main building of Chattogram Zilla Parishadon Saturday (Today).
Self-employment materials will be distributed among the poor, helpless and destitute trainees under the Poverty Alleviation and Women Development Project in front of the temporary office at the initiative of Chattogram Zilla Parishad. Chattogram Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Shabbir Iqbal said, “We are working on the modern Zilla Parishad building with our own funds.”
“Hopefully by the middle of next year we will be able to move into a permanent office building. We are probably going to build our first building in theZilla Parishad in Bangladesh”, he added.
He said that on March 23, 2017, a proposal was sent to demolish the existing building of Chattogram Zilla Parishad and construct a multi-storied office-cum-commercial building.
In order to implement the project, the Chief Engineer of LGED has been asked by the Ministry of Local Government to design, draw, estimate the cost of the project and provide necessary technical assistance.
According to him, after getting permission from the Ministry of Local Government, the design approval was taken from Chattogram Development Authority.
M Jamal & Company Limited has been appointed as the contractor for the project with an estimated cost of Tk 81.29 crore and a contract value of Tk 77.18 crore.
Chattogram Zilla Parishad Secretary Md Didarul Alam said that the work of the building is going on with its own funds. The building is expected to be completed by June of the next year. The Zilla Parishad office will be on the 3-4th floor of the building.
At present the Zilla Parishad is conducting all the work in the temporary office in the own market. The old Zilla Parishad market is likely to be demolished and joined with the new building in the future.
It will be possible to transfer the office of the Zilla Parishad in the meantime. The Zilla Parishad has plans to construct new buildings in modern architectural style
Zilla Parishad building will have 18 floors with 2 approved basements. 77 crore 18 lakh 41 thousand taka contracting company M Jamal & Company Limited is constructing the building.
There will be two basement floors in the constructed Zilla Parishad building. It will have more than hundred car parking, generator room, water reservoir, fire room, substation, pump room and driver waiting room.
On the ground floor there will be training room, mosque, wash zone. Up to 5-14 floors will be rented to various corporate houses. Meeting hall, conference room, office space will be rented on the second floor.
The Zila Parishad office will be on the 3-4th floor. 15-16th floor will be rented for the restaurant. The building will have fire extinguishing system, photo electric smoke detector, sound system, CCTV camera.
At present it will be the first building in Chattogram as a modern technology and high rise building. Good quality rods, cement, stone, sand etc. are being used in the construction style of the building.
It may be mentioned that the 5282.92 km area of Chattogram Zilla Parishad created on 5th April, 1887. At present various developmental and service activities are being conducted in 14 upazilas under the district councils.
