The central committee members and activists of platform made the demand for construction work of embankment along the Haor at a human chain formed at Alfat Uddin Square (Traffic Point) in Sunamganj town on Tuesday noon.
People from various professions took part in the hour-long human chain and raised the slogan ‘Save the Haor.’ They demanded construction work of embankment along the Haor.
The human chain programme was addressed, among others, by the Vice President and the General Secretary of Save the Haor Movement Abu Sufian and Bijon Sen Roy respectively, Sukhendu Sen, Yeakub Bakth Bahlul, Salehin Chowdhury and Kudrat Pasha.
Speakers at the human chain said, though the date of starting of embankment along the Haor has been elapsed, no work has still been started and even no work Projct Implementation Committee has yet been formed. The farmers were worried to lose their Boro crops due to non extraction of water from inside the haors till now. As a result, the speakers demanded to start the work to save the crops immediately; otherwise, they threatened to 'gherao' the office of Water Development Board office.
