The construction work of Kuril-Purbachal 100 feet canal is going on in full swing to meet the rescheduled deadline. The project was rescheduled to be completed in 2021 instead of last year due to the inclusion of three new roads from the Detailed Area Plan (DAP). The Tk 52.87 billion project was initiated in September 2015 with a target to complete it by August 2018. The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the project in December 2016.
Bangladesh Army has been implementing the project titled 'Excavation and development of 100-foot canals on both sides of the Kuril-Purbachal (From Kuril to Balu River) Link Road project'. The new plan, however, excludes service roads on both sides of the canals from the previous design by experts of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
Huge lands were acquired by the authorities concerned for the canals on both sides of the 300-foot wide road covering an area from Kuril to the Balu River. Although the project work started, landowners whose lands have been acquired for the project are yet to get their compensation.
