Consignment of sarees along with truck seized at Benapole for evading Tk 20 lakh revenue

Customs officials have seized a consignment of Indian sarees at Benapole port with a revenue evasion of Tk 20 lakh.

The consignment was being smuggled from Shed No. 13 of the port on Tuesday (August 25) at noon. After checking the paperwork, the customs confirmed the matter to the media personnel in the afternoon.

According to Benapole Customs sources, an importer named Bhabna Enterprise of Jashore imported 602 packages of various goods from India. Whose customs B / E number – 32937 date – 13/08/20. Remu Enterprise, a C&F agency owned by Hadiuzzaman, the chairman of Putkhali Union, was in charge of releasing the consignment.

The consignment picks up an additional 10 bales of high quality wedding sari hidden in the same shed while clearing the port at the end of customs and port formalities. At that time, after receiving secret information, the customs members seized the consignment. Seized truck number is Dhaka Metro T-13-0454. No documents of the seized extra 10 ail of sarees were with the truck.

Meanwhile, there are allegations that Remu Enterprise has been smuggling no-entry goods from the port without any documents for a long time. Hadiuzzaman has become the owner of crores of illegal money by evading the revenue of the government.

Customs already has multiple records of seizure of illegal goods along with legitimate products of C&F agency Remu Enterprise owned by him at different times.

The process of revoking the C&F agent’s license has started on the allegation of revenue evasion of Tk 20 lakh. Last Thursday afternoon, a fish consignment imported from India of Remu Enterprise was caught for evading revenue of Tk 11 lakh.

Hadiuzzaman, the accused C&F businessman, was called more than once but did not receive the call.

Benapole Customs House Commissioner Azizur Rahman said a saree consignment of C&F agency Remu Enterprise was seized on charges of revenue evasion after receiving confidential information who had no papers. He also said that the process of revoking his license has started.

Meanwhile, locals said that influential traders from Benapole port are managing customs and port officials in different guises, sometimes managing them with bribes and sometimes using intimidation to evade government revenue. As a result, the revenue of this port has come down.
